AnnouncementAnd that's it. They are offering demos of the iPhone outside, which is sort of funny since, well, it's an iPhone.
11:29 A.M. |More Questions Data plan pricing is not yet set.
The Verizon iPhone will be available through "indirect" sales channels, i.e. outside of Verizon stores, but not at first. Key distribution partners will get it first, then others, Mr. Mead says. A question about the experience when on a voice call and trying to access the Web. Mr. Cook responds: "I think people place emphasis on different things." Mr. Cook returns to being very excited about selling the iPhone to Verizon customers. They want this phone, and they will be willing to take certain tradeoffs to get it, he says.
11:22 A.M. |3G, Not 4G Now, why isn't the phone 4G-ready? Mr. Cook says that the existing LTE chipsets would have forced design compromises the company would not make. Customers have also said that they want the iPhone now. Next question: Will the CDMA iPhone be exclusive to Verizon? Mr. Cook says it is not exclusive. Any other technical changes to the phone? He says it had to be optimized for Verizon's CDMA network. The CDMA iPhone has an extra "seam" on the case, just above the mute switch.

Now the question about using a data connection while talking on the phone. Mr. Mead says it's the same experience as with other CDMA devices. That means no voice and data at the same time -- unlike with the GSM version on AT&T. 11:21 A.M. |Question Time Mr. Cook is taking questions. How many iPhones do they think they can sell on Verizon? He declines to make a solid prediction, but says he's "very excited" and that there's "tremendous opportunity." "No one more than us wants to give Verizon customers the choice they've wanted," he says. Now a question about upgrade cycles. Will Verizon's CDMA iPhone be on the same upgrade schedule as the existing GSM model? Mr. Cook declines to say.
11:18 A.M. |The Prices On Feb. 3, existing Verizon customers can preorder the iPhone 4 ahead of general availability. Everyone will be able to buy the phone on Feb. 10. The price is $199.99 for 16 gigabytes of storage, $299.99 for 32 gigabytes -- the same as on AT&T... but plus 99 cents?

HotSync is included, which means that up to five Wi-Fi devices can tether to the phone and use its data connection. 11:16 A.M. |More on the Deal "We had been talking to Verizon for a while," Mr. Cook says. "This is just the beginning of a partnership with Verizon." And here's Dan Mead, chief executive of Verizon Wireless. Everybody's very excited, everybody has a great phone on a great network. That's what everyone is saying. Rinse. Repeat.

Verizon employees will get training this week. Logistics and inventory have been adjusted to handle the volume. A merchandising campaign will hit both Verizon and Apple stores.
"We have more than enough capacity on our network," Mr. Mead says. Thousands of devices have been tested over the past few months. The 4G network will roll out over the next three years, but the company will still provide a robust 3G network.
