After throwing four incomplete passes, Collins was replaced by Caleb Hanie with 57 seconds left in the third quarter.
Hanie, who had thrown for a total of 66 yards in his two seasons in the NFL, directed a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter that pulled the Bears within 14-7. Now that Hanie has entered the game, the Bears won't be able to use Cutler or Collins because of the NFL's rules regarding the third quarterback.
Collins took warm-up throws before the start of the second half, but Cutler started the second half, throwing an incomplete pass in a three-and-out opening drive. Cutler completed 6 of 13 passes for 80 yards and an interception in the first half for the Bears, who trailed 14-0 at the break.
Bears coach Lovie Smith told a Fox reporter that Cutler's knee was "banged up," just before the start of the second half. Cutler, who remained on the sideline with his pads on, told the Bears' medical staff he didn't know when in the first half he injured the knee, according to the Fox Sports broadcast. Collins started one game for the Bears this season, a Week 5 victory over the Carolina Panthers while Cutler was recovering from a concussion. Collins struggled and had a 6.3 passer rating.
