ksdk school closings

East St. Louis, Ill (KSDK) -- Illinois Department of Transportation crews have been out all night trying to keep up with the falling snow and the roads were passable for the morning commute, according to Illinois State Police.
Joe Monroe from IDOT said crews have been able to keep the roads clear around the East St. Louis area. Further north, around Alton, where more snow has fallen, some roads still have snow on them, but crews are working to clear them.
IDOT said the next concern will be later in the morning when the winds are expected to kick up and blow the snow.
Monroe said drivers need to remember to stay back from snow plows. There have been reports of drivers trying to pass the plows and go around them. The best place for drivers to be is behind them.
IDOT had between 175 and 200 trucks out plowing.

Illinois State Police said the interstates and state routes were passable for the morning commute. Speeds were averaging 45 mph on the interstates.

Seven crashes were handled by the Illinois State Police during the overnight hours.
