Singletary Exits but Leaves Lasting Images
The 49ers couldn’t wait to fire Mike Singletary, dismissing him Sunday night with only week left in the season. A heated exchange with quarterback Troy Smith on the sideline during a crushing loss at St. Louis was Singletary’s latest contentious moment. The 49ers and their fans would have been able to live with some discord; the inability to win an almost comically weak division was too much to take.

David White, The San Francisco Chronicle:

Singletary was all but doomed from the team’s 0-5 start, firing his offensive coordinator after three games, benching each of his starting quarterbacks twice, seemingly dealing with a crisis a week on his way to an 18-22 overall mark.

Doug Farrar, Shutdown Corner:

More and more, it seemed to be more about Singletary exerting his authority than about the team’s improvement, and the back-and-forth with Smith was just the most recent and obvious example.

But Singletary will leave behind memories of his passion (and short fuse), in the form of YouTube videos.
