Lady Gaga: "No One Is a More Adoring and Loving Madonna Fan Than Me"

Lady Gaga is the first to agree that people should be free to express themselves. Even if it sounds exactly like "Express Yourself."

"You know, there is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me. I am the hugest fan personally and professionally," the pop princess, a three-time Grammy winner Sunday, told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show when asked about the controversy whipped up over the title song off her new album, Born This Way.

But what did Madonna have to say about Gaga's glaringly apparent homage?

"The good news is, I got an email from her people sending me their love and support on behalf of the single," Gaga revealed. "And if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be."

That is good news (because if Madonna was going to quibble about the similarities after all the success she has had...that would have just been petty).

In the end, there's nothing like Lady Gaga explaining what "Born This Way" means to her—and what she wants it to mean to everybody.

"Essentially, with the visuals and the music and all of the lyrics, it's about being able to know that when you were born, you weren't just born in that moment," she told Leno. "You have your entire life to realize the person that you're potentially going to become and however you choose to be is part of your destiny...In this moment, if you don't feel entirely happy and secure in who you are...it's never too late to harness your confidence, your inner superstars."

And if your destiny is to wear flamboyant funereal garb and a Hamburglar mask on The Tonight Show, so be it.

"The freedom in the song, the R&B, early '90s vibe that it has," she continued, "it's so full of love and spirit, and I think that it's the spirit that people are reacting to the most. I just want everyone to rejoice and celebrate and be unafraid to be happy. It doesn't always have to be so dark. It doesn't always have to be so sexy. Sometimes it's wonderful just to celebrate life and kind of go to church with it."

Hallelujah!

Lady Gaga also announced that she's taping a Monster Ball HBO concert special and that the video for "Born This Way" will be out "very soon."
